It’s not the fact that you have a gazillion and one things to do for the holidays that creates the stress, it’s the story you make up about it that does. If you continue to convince yourself that the holidays are something other than joyful and fun, then guess what!
They won’t be joyful or fun. So self-talk such as:
“I’ll never get it all done”, this is too much work”,or ” I dread spending the day with my in-laws” puts a label or judgement on the activity. Instead of running those movies in your mind about how awful or impossible the holiday period will unfold, stay in the present moment. Put 100% of your focus on the task at hand. That means notice what you are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. What this does is take you out of your analytical, thinking mind. It’s that mind that gets you into trouble every time! Instead, actually experience your life NOW, as it is unfolding, and then there is NO ROOM for the mind chatter to enter and take your mood down. Set the intention to be present and accept what is, even if it’s not the way you really wanted it to be. Try it, you might like it!
Enjoy the Holidays WITHOUT Stress
